Brig. Gen. John E. Michel is the Commanding General, NATO Air Training Command-Afghanistan; NATO Training Mission/Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan; and Commander, 438th Air Expeditionary Wing, Kabul, Afghanistan.
General Michel entered the Air Force in 1988. A command pilot with over 3,300 flight hours, he has commanded at numerous levels and served in a host of key staff assignments, including Chief, Change and Learning Strategist, USTRANSCOM, Chief, Talent Management Officer, and National Defense Fellow at the Institute for Defense Analysis in Washington D.C.
Brig. Gen Michel is a widely recognized expert in culture, strategy & individual and organizational change. An accomplished unconventional leader and proven status quo buster, he has successfully led several multi-billion dollar transformation efforts and his award-winning work has been featured in a wide variety of articles and journals, including the Harvard Business Review.
